The Present Moment — Road Mural + Installation

When the City of Toronto put out a call for public art projects to occupy King Street for a year, I knew instantly that I wanted to marry form with function by addressing the lack of public seating in the area while also creating a temporary escape from the hectic downtown core.

Beginning with an eye-catching road mural that draws attention away from inner thoughts and outer chaos, this installation invites those passing by to stop and relax in a country chair.

By observing the lively street we can reflect on the fact that beauty and tranquility that can be found wherever we seek them, should we only pause for long enough to look.

 It paired eight hand-painted Adirondack chairs with an 80-foot-long road mural, instantly becoming a popular and coveted spot to take a break.
